Hello Everybody,
Today I’d like to tell you about a song I really like. It is very difficult to talk about a favorite song of all times, but I can think of a song I really liked and heard (among others) during 2008.
It’s called “Starlings” by the British band “Elbow” and it’s part of the album called “The seldom seen kid”.
For me, the lyrics of the song are really important. I have to admit I have liked songs I did not understand in the past, though.
I love the lyrics of this song firstly, because they sound like a really confused, crazy, yet honest idea of love.
Conflict! Maybe the one we sometimes don’t want to know about, but surely the one that we feel many times.
I heard it for the first time when my husband was watching the video on U tube, and the first thing that struck my attention was the candid and soothing music followed by the really powerful brass intervention. I found it really interesting straight away. Actually, I really enjoyed the whole album once my naughty husband downloaded it.
Here it goes…
Starlings (a type of bird)
How dare the premier (pronounced premeair)
ignore my invitations?
He'll have to go.
So to the bunchy luncheons with the second on
my list of things to do.
At the top you're stopping by your place of work and
acting like i haven't dreamed of you and I and
marriage in an orange grove.
You are the only thing in any room you're ever in
I'm stubborn, selfish, and too old.
(Ahhh...)
I sat you down and told you how the truest love that's
ever found is for oneself.
You pulled apart my theory with a weary and disinterested sigh
So yes i guess i'm asking you to back a horse that's good for glue
and nothing else
But find a man that's truer than, find a man that needs you
more than I.
Sit with me a while and let me listen to you talk about your dreams and obsessions
I'll be quite and confessional
The violence explode inside me when i meet your eyes
Then I'm spinning and diving like a cloud of starlings.
Darling is this love?
